The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the right to challenge specific rulings made by the official, echoing the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to review other situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can request.
Case in Point
A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
